Today, I'm writing just to get you to put some thought into whatever the hell it may be that you want to work on this year. What kinds of things do you want to accomplish with 2017 just arriving?
I’m not talking about cheesy “I want to lose X amount of pounds” or “I’m going to be a better person” resolutions.
I even hate typing that word as much as I hate saying it.
I don’t want you to do the same thing everyone else does this year; Make these empty (but good-spirited) promises to yourself that you ditch after 5.5 weeks because you overshot your life’s demands and can’t keep up with them.
I want you not to think about any outcomes (lose X pounds), but rather the behaviors you will implement to get that outcome.
For example, something I want to work on this year is to get back to learning to speak Spanish.
I don’t know why. I have no Spanish roots, or no pressing need to learn it. I’m just curious about languages and I want to start with that one.
But I know I can’t learn Spanish if I don’t get out my tablet and use the app I downloaded for at least a few minutes, every day.
That’s the behavior. That’s what will get me to be able to speak it - the outcome.
So think about what you want to work on, and how you can adopt simple behaviors at first to get started.
If being more active, feeling more energetic, and yeah sure, dropping a few extra, unwanted pounds is something you want to work on this year, then it's time to put some thought into action and do one thing:
You can’t reach your end goal without STARTING any specific behaviors.
Now, feel free to take the weekend to think about it, water the tree (or pack it up), and maybe even write down something on paper.
But, come Monday morning, let's see you put something into ACTION.
Let's do this.
