Something happened the other night that I want to tell you about.
It was a "date night" with my 2-and-half-year-old, Eva. Just me and the kid.
Normally she picks where we go, but for something different, I decided and took her to Menchies and let her go nuts.
Menchies is a frozen yogurt place where you pick your toppings and weigh your bowl and pay whatever. I've never been, so I thought it'd be fun for her.
But here's what I didn't realize...
It was "2 for 1" night, so the place was packed with people grabbing 2 for 1 yogurts.
So Eva and I got in line, grabbed the bowl, and got our treats. She went with chocolate yogurt, gummy bears, M & M's, and Reese's Pieces on top.
Strange combo, I know, but it's her world, I'm just living in it.
When I got to the counter, the customer paying at the register next to me saw I just had one bowl and said,
"You know it's 2 for 1, right??"
I didn't know, so I thought for a second, "Do I care?"
And politely replied,
"Oh that's OK, we just want the 1."
What's my point here?
Keep your eyes on the prize. Keep yourself focused on the reason you're doing what you're doing.
The point of the daddy-daughter date was to spend time with my girl and give her a treat.
It wasn't to give myself a treat, and before I walked into the store I wasn't thinking about getting anything for myself, anyways.
Which is why I was totally OK with turning down the treat for myself.
It wasn't needed. That wasn't my focus.
I'm not sharing because I think I'm better or stronger or healthier or whatever because I resisted the second (free) yogurt.
I'm just sharing because it was a moment where it would've been easy to just take the free gift and eat something that I never even had a desire to have in the first place.
And it probably would've made me feel like crap after anyways.
So that's it. That's my long, rambling story.
I don't know, maybe it's stupid.
But it was a moment where I wondered how many people would take that second, free yogurt just because it was offered, not because they really wanted it.
This weekend, just stop and take a second before you make decisions.
Do you really wanna do what you're about to do?
Skip the workout. Eat that junk. Stay up that extra hour.
Will it move you 1 step closer to, or 1 step further from, your desired result?
Are you FOCUSING?
Enjoy life, take some time to have fun, but keep yourself focused on what really matters to you.
